Breakfast Cereal Rant!!!!!!!

I just have to rant for a second!!!!!!!
Consumer reports came out with a warning today to parents about sugar in breakfast cereals.
Eye opening stuff right???
Guess what their advice was???????;
Just mix some fruit loops or other sugary cereal with the healthy ones like Cheerios, Rice crispies etc. That way you can "fool" your child.
Are you kidding me?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then there are also those yogurts with all the add-ins. Are we teaching kids to eat "nosh" disguised as breakfast!

I had guests here the last few days with a 3 and 4 year old. The kids add kix (better than most), fruit loops and pebbles type cereal dry for breakfast!! WTH?? Any nutrition there at all?

And the little boy noshes all day (popcorn, pretzels, etc), barely eating "real food" Mom stuffs him with 2x daily soy protein shakes in rice milk to ensure he gets some vitamins. I say lose the nosh and he will find an appetite for real food. And so what if he doesnt eat for a few days?? This kid is so hyper and he takes meds for wheezing too! No wonder with his food source....
..end of rant here

I'm sorry, but parents should CONTROL what comes into their houses.... my son (17mos) eats great meals every morning & there is no excuse for purchasing Fruit Loops.

We love whole wheat pancakes (make head), oatmeal, free-range eggs, sausage, cheese, toast, bananas, etc. 5 minutes - that's ALL it takes.... oh and some foresight to get it going.

And I get critized for not feeding myself or my child commercialized stuff or having a microwave.... but I can't say I feel guilty b/c he's getting the "good stuff"

Buying or mixing fruit loops is absurd!

Adventurer and Miz,

It really is incredulous isn't it?

I normally don't even care, but this one was just over the top.
They actually call this news.
The topper for me was the line of "fooling your kids"
Great advice...... ;-(

Have a great day, and thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.

Now that I'm actually in the US, I can totally sympathize with ya Marc- it's horrible :(
Back home I thought that there must be some exaggeration happening on the net- but damn it's all true.

Gotta say tho- good food here is horribly, horribly, horribly expensive. And anything not organic tastes like pure crap. Actually, all food seems to be expensive. Jup. You can buy shoes here about 5 times as cheap as back home, but you pay twice as much for your food- and you dont have to buy shoes every day.

I'm rambling, sorry.
Take care!

Naomi,

Sad but true :-(
Although....there are exceptions.
But you need to know where to go.

See why I want open my little "Paleo Grill"???
I think it would do well ;-)
Enjoy the differences and the beautiful landscape of where you are, you're vacation will be over before you know it.

It probably would do really well Marc, but maybe only for the ehh.. somewhat richer people.
I am so not surprised anymore at poor people being fat around here. It's depressing.
Found somewhere they wanted me to pay 7,60 dollar for 3 tomatoes...... i could buy 2 bags 'o tomatoes for that back home.

Ridiculous. I give my kids only cherrios and even that is only once every 2 weeks or so in a small amount. We go through a box of cereal once a quarter, maybe.

One funny thing is that my daughter's school collects "box tops" for giveaways and prizes. We cannot play since we buy almost nothing out of a box. It amazes me what people feed their kids. All those grains are just BS.

Thanks for sharing.
